I found a little more spicy oak in the 2021 Red Blend, which was produced with Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bonarda. It has notes of sweet spices and a smoky twist, with herbal and berry aromas and flavors and a medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and some oak flavors on the dry finish. It has a commercial profile.

Gold Medal Winner: 2014 Los Angeles International Wine Competition Dark berry fruit flavors, integrated with brown spice and vanilla oak characters that form a plush mouthfeel. The Tempranillo and Syrah grapes contribute bold, spicy flavors of blackberry and black pepper which marry well with the juicy dark cherry flavors of Bonarda and the deep plum flavors of the Malbec base. The addition of Cabernet Franc helps to balance the blend, as it melds with notes of warm brown spice to create a long, supple finish.

Red Blend

Red blend wines are a versatile category in which winemakers artfully combine various red grape varieties to produce wines with a diverse and harmonious flavor profile. By blending grapes with different characteristics, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and others, winemakers can create wines that balance fruitiness, acidity, tannins, and other elements. This flexibility allows for a broad spectrum of styles, ranging from easy-drinking and approachable blends to more complex and structured ones. Red blends often showcase the winemaker's skill in achieving a desired flavor and texture, offering wine enthusiasts a delightful exploration of the interplay between different grape varietals. The composition of red blends can vary, not only between different wine regions but also among individual wineries, making them a fascinating category for both winemakers and wine enthusiasts alike.
