Gernot and Heike Heinrich founded their winery in 1990 with 2 ½ acres of vineyard purchased from Gernot”s family. His early work in the family winery, like most of that generation, was purely an agricultural pursuit with goals more related to quantity production. Gernot”s parents had wished their son would choose a different path, because unlike him, they could not see the potential for great wines to be produced from this area. Just over a decade later, the Heinrich”s were recognized with the prestigious Falstaff ”Winemaker of the Year” award. The philosophy at the winery is as transparent and pure as their wines. Their initial challenges were no comparison to the joy and some measure of freedom it gave Gernot & Heike to make a fresh start for the area. That joy and bravery still drives them both today, as they look across Lake Neusiedl to Leithaberg for their next challenge.

ORIGIN: The “naked white” is sourced from both sides of the Neusiedler See (Lake Neusiedl). On the west side, vines are rooted in the limestone and schist of the Leithaberg (Leitha Mountains) slopes - on the east side of the lake vines in the gravelly Parndorfer Platte (Parndorfer Plain) and humus-rich Heideboden. GENESIS: Bottled with conscientious handcraft and great care throughout the entire life cycle. Organic and biodynamic cultivation of the vineyards.Handpicked end of August to mid-September and macerated with the stems overnight. Spontaneous and malolactic fermentation. Aged for 14 months on the lees in used large oak casks and bottled unfiltered without added sulphur.

Orange Wine

Orange wine is a type of white wine that is made using a traditional method that is more commonly associated with red wine production. The grapes used to make orange wine are white wine grapes, but the juice is fermented with the skins, seeds, and stems for a longer period of time than is typical for white wine, often several weeks to several months. This extended skin contact gives the wine its distinctive orange color, as well as a fuller body and a range of flavors and aromas that are not found in traditional white wines. Orange wine is typically dry and can have a slightly tannic, rustic quality, with notes of stone fruit, nuts, and honey. It is sometimes described as having a "skin-fermented" flavor profile and is prized by some wine enthusiasts for its unique and complex taste. Orange wine is produced in limited quantities and can be more challenging to find than other types of wine.
