This is the so-called "green label" Brunello with proprietor Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini's signature on the front of the bottle. Her classic 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is sharp and tonic with wild raspberry, cassis, lilac, earth and garden herb. There is a sweet note of sour cherry on the mid-weight finish. This is an ample 160,000-bottle production made in a traditional approach with two years in casks made with both Slavonian and French oak.

Pretty aromas of blue flowers and wild berries mix with new leather and botanical herbs. On the linear, already approachable palate, fine-grained, polished tannins accompany juicy Morello cherry, star anise, crushed mint and mocha. Drink through 2027.

Bright fruit flavors mark this harmonious red, offering cherry, strawberry, eucalyptus and sanguine notes. Lightly dusty tannins come to the fore as this winds down on the finish. Best from 2024.

Montalcino is a picturesque hilltop town in southern Tuscany, world-famous for producing the mighty Brunello di Montalcino. Here, Sangiovese—called Sangiovese Grosso or ā€œBrunelloā€ā€”reaches dazzling heights, yielding wines bursting with dark cherry, blackberry, leather, and earthy spice, wrapped in powerful tannins and vibrant acidity. Brunello must age at least five years (six for Riserva), making it one of Italy’s most age-worthy and prestigious reds. There’s also Rosso di Montalcino, its younger sibling, offering similar flavors in a lighter, more approachable style. Whether Brunello or Rosso, wines from Montalcino capture the sun-soaked hills, warm breezes, and centuries of Tuscan winemaking passion—perfect with rich pasta, roasted meats, or simply savoring life’s best moments.
Sangiovese is a red wine grape predominantly associated with Italy, particularly in the Tuscany region. Known for its high acidity and versatile nature, Sangiovese produces wines with bright red fruit flavors, including cherry and strawberry, along with floral and herbal notes. Famous Tuscan wines such as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are primarily made from Sangiovese. The grape's character can vary depending on the winemaking style and the specific terroir, ranging from lighter, more approachable styles to complex, age-worthy wines with robust tannins and a distinct sense of place. Sangiovese wines are often praised for their food-friendly acidity and ability to express the unique characteristics of the regions where they are grown.
