Montes Alpha Carmenère was made with selected grapes from vineyards in the Colchagua Valley irrigated according to the Water Saving Winegrowing system that Aurelio Montes and his team developed over the course of years of research. This system allows us to determine the precise amount of water we need to add to the vineyards after the winter rains, especially in particularly dry years when irrigation is indispensible. This has enabled us to reduce irrigation water by 65% while simultaneously improving the quality of the fruit.
Carmenère is a red wine grape variety originally from Bordeaux, France, but it has found a new home in Chile. Often referred to as the "lost grape of Bordeaux," Carmenère produces wines with a deep, red color and distinctive notes of dark fruit, green bell pepper, and sometimes a hint of spiciness. In Chile, Carmenère has become a flagship grape, celebrated for its unique characteristics and the country's ability to showcase its full potential. The wines are known for their approachability, smooth tannins, and a profile that combines fruitiness with intriguing herbal and peppery undertones.
