Nose: Some ingredients in a bung cloth, olive oil, rye bread and shiny leather, and also oats, sweet oranges, Calvados, and a good amount of smooth vanilla custard. Hints of moss and band aids as well. The Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is quite neat and charming. Taste: Fabulous oily feeling in the mouth with a proper malty base. There's a hint of gentian root, lemon peel, ginger, and green pepper, but also melons, a delightful hint of peach and fennel. Adding water brings out a sweeter side, highlighting honey and brown sugar. Finish: Bitter lemon peel and honey with lasting herbs.
