Distilleria Sangallo was established in 1964 in the beautiful village of Monterosso al Mare, one of the five villages of Liguria’s famed Cinque Terre coastline, by Giovanni Bergamino. Today Giovanni’s nephew, Stefano, along with his partner Marco, continue the family tradition of producing a wide range of spirits and liqueurs native to Liguria. Amaro Camatti is a Genovese specialty, first made by pharmacist Umberto Briganti in 1923 and named after his wife. Bitters were originally prepared by the local pharmacist and prescribed for their healing properties. After disappearing from the market for several decades, Sangallo acquired the rights to produce Amaro Camatti, remaining faithful to the original (and secret) recipe of Umberto. It shows dried fruit on the nose, with a hint of eucalyptus, and there is mint on the palate, balanced with flavors of cola, gentian, and angelica.
