ProducerDomaine Machard de Gramont
Domaine Machard de Gramont Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes is a serious, ageworthy red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Nuits' most distinguished single-vineyard sites. Les Damodes sits at the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges in the extension of Vosne-Romanée's Premier Crus — its fine, gravel-rich soils produce wines that drink with the silky finesse of its more famous neighbor. The Machard de Gramont family hand-harvests, severely sorts, ferments in open wooden vats, and ages this cuvée 18 months in oak barrels deep in their 11th-century vaulted cellars. The nose is layered and lifted, opening with ripe black cherry, raspberry, violet, sweet baking spice, and a beautifully integrated thread of cedar and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full bodied with seamless texture, fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, perfumed finish that promises serious cellar potential. This is Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir at its most precise — a bottle worth opening on a special occasion or holding ten years for full expression. Pair it with roast game, duck breast, beef bourguignon, mushroom-stuffed pasta, or simply give it the spotlight it deserves.
