Gyeong Ju Beop Ju Makgeolli is a traditional Korean rice wine from the historic city of Gyeongju — the ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty and one of Korea's most culturally significant regions. Beop Ju (literally "law wine" or "recipe wine") refers to a traditional brewing method passed down through generations, producing a refined, balanced rice wine that stands apart from modern commercial versions. The pour reveals a milky-white, gently cloudy appearance — a hallmark of authentic Makgeolli. The nose offers steamed rice, soft yeast, sweet fruit, and a wisp of floral lift. On the palate, expect natural sweetness from rice, balanced lactic acidity, gentle effervescence, and a smooth, refreshing finish. At a sessionable low ABV, it's the kind of drink that pairs effortlessly with savory Korean food and disappears fast. Best served well-chilled and lightly shaken before pouring to redistribute the natural rice solids. Pair with Korean fried chicken, pajeon (savory pancakes), spicy stews, kimbap, or really any Korean meal where you want a refreshing, food-friendly companion.
