Hakutsuru Ume Plum Wine is a charming Japanese plum wine (umeshu) from one of Japan's most respected and historic sake producers โ Hakutsuru, founded in 1743 in Nada, Kobe. Made by infusing whole Japanese ume plums with shochu (Japanese distilled spirit) and rock sugar, then allowing time to extract the fruit's natural complexity. The result is one of Japan's most beloved sweet aperitifs โ a beautifully balanced blend of fruit sweetness, gentle alcohol, and subtle herbal lift. The pour reveals a clear amber-gold hue. The nose opens with ripe Japanese plum, gentle apricot, soft almond (the plum kernels add classic umeshu character), and a wisp of warm honey. On the palate, expect a sweet but beautifully balanced pour with juicy plum fruit, soft tartness, gentle warmth, and a clean, refreshing finish. Best served chilled in a small glass over ice with a strip of lemon peel, or as a sweet dessert pairing with cheesecake, fruit tarts, or simply on its own after a Japanese meal.
