ProducerMarques de Riscal
Marqués de Riscal Barón de Chirel Reserva is a flagship, age-worthy Rioja from one of Spain's most legendary wine houses — founded in 1858 and continuously crafting some of the country's most respected reds for nearly two centuries. First produced in 1986, Barón de Chirel was created to showcase the highest expression of Rioja, sourced from vines aged 80 to 110 years old with very low yields and meticulous selection. The blend leans on Tempranillo (around 70%) with significant Cabernet Sauvignon — a Bordeaux-influenced approach that reflects Riscal's longstanding ties with Bordeaux winemaking traditions. The nose opens with deep cassis, dried fig, dark chocolate, saddle leather, and sweet tobacco. On the palate, expect luxurious tannins, blackberry, Luxardo cherry, espresso bean, and violet, with subtle hints of black olive and a lingering note of orange zest on the long finish. The 2010 vintage was widely praised for its blackcurrant fruit and fine tannins, with serious cellaring potential. A genuine prestige bottle for collectors and Rioja lovers — pair with grilled lamb, beef, aged Manchego, or save for a special occasion.
