Nikka Single Malt Yoichi Aromatic Yeast is a special, distinctive expression from one of Japan's most legendary whisky distilleries โ Yoichi, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934 on the rugged northern island of Hokkaido. Taketsuru is widely regarded as the father of Japanese whisky, and Yoichi was deliberately built in a coastal location with weather similar to Scotland to produce robust, full-flavored single malts. This Aromatic Yeast expression highlights the distinctive yeast strains used during fermentation โ a key but often overlooked variable in whisky production. The pour reveals a beautiful deep amber hue. The nose opens with rich peat smoke, sea salt, dried fruit, sweet leather, dark chocolate, and a wisp of warm spice. On the palate, expect a robust, full-bodied whisky with smoky character, dried fruit, gentle sweetness balanced by salty maritime brine, and a long, smoky finish that's purely Yoichi in identity. A genuine collector's piece for serious Japanese whisky enthusiasts and a beautiful contrast to softer Japanese expressions.
