Salentein Malbec Paraje Altamira is a serious single-vineyard expression from one of Mendoza's most celebrated estates โ Bodegas Salentein, a pioneering producer that helped put Argentina's high-elevation Uco Valley on the world wine map. Paraje Altamira (now its own DOC within the Uco Valley) is widely regarded as one of the finest Malbec terroirs on Earth โ a high-altitude alluvial fan with calcareous soils that produce wines of remarkable elegance, freshness, and complexity. The 2018 vintage of this single-vineyard bottling earned 92 points from Wine Enthusiast for its layered fruit and tight tannic structure. The nose opens with sour cherry, fresh blueberry, ripe red plum, dried herbs, and a subtle thread of green bell pepper and thyme โ markers of true high-altitude Malbec. On the palate, expect a fresh, fruity body with tight tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long savory finish that reveals serious cellar potential. Pair it with grilled steak, lamb, beef empanadas, or aged hard cheeses for a textbook Uco Valley experience.
