Scarpetta Barbera del Monferrato is a juicy, food-loving Italian red from the heart of Piedmont โ the famed northern Italian region that produces some of the world's most celebrated wines. Scarpetta is a thoughtful project from chef-sommelier Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson and master sommelier Bobby Stuckey of Frasca Food & Wine โ built specifically to make pure, food-friendly Italian wines for the American table. Barbera del Monferrato is the everyday workhorse of Piedmont โ beloved for its bright fruit, lively acidity, and supreme food-friendliness. The pour shows a vibrant ruby-purple hue. The nose opens with fresh black cherry, ripe plum, juicy berries, dried herbs, and a wisp of violet. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with mouth-watering acidity, supple tannins, juicy dark fruit, and a clean, savory finish that practically begs for food. Aged briefly to preserve freshness and drinkability. Pair it with pasta Bolognese, pizza, charcuterie boards, grilled meats, or aged Pecorino โ Barbera was built to make dinner taste better.
