Vibrant deep-blue color; nice citrus nose. Silky texture with notes of orange and juniper; tangy and bright, charming and long.
Wine Enthusiast: 90 PointsThis gin is vivid indigoblue, thanks to an infusion of butterfly pea blossoms, and transforms to an attractive pink hue as tonic or citrus are added. The aroma is relatively neutral and the palate is mild and malty, with hints of coriander, orris root and white pepper. But it’s really all about the eye-popping blue color and all the party tricks that can be performed with this gin
Empress 1908 Gin delights the senses with its balanced citrus-and-spice palette, brilliant colour, light floral fragrance and soft texture. Handcrafted in small batch copper-pot stills, Empress 1908 is a collaboration between Victoria Distillers and the legendary Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia. It uses eight signature botanicals, including juniper, grapefruit peel, rose petal, coriander, ginger, cinnamon, and a bespoke blend of tea made especially for the Empress Hotel. The eighth botanical, exotic butterfly pea blossom, was discovered in another tea served at the Empress Hotel. These blossoms balance the traditional citrus notes of gin with a warm herbal earthiness, and create a deep, natural indigo that changes colour depending on the mixer. The combination of exquisite taste, delicate aroma, soft texture, and remarkable presentation provide the perfect base for a new aesthetic of cocktail creation and enjoyment.
Gin, a clear and aromatic distilled spirit, is distinguished by its primary botanical flavor of juniper berries, which imparts a piney and resinous quality. Crafted through distillation, gin's unique profile is further enriched by a diverse array of botanicals, including herbs, spices, and citrus peels, resulting in a complex and versatile spirit. Its adaptability shines in classic cocktails like the Martini and the Negroni, where the interplay of botanicals adds depth and character. From the London Dry style with a crisp, juniper-forward taste to more contemporary and floral variations, gin remains a beloved and iconic spirit, inviting both tradition and innovation into the world of mixology.
