As with almost all of the Syrahs here, the 2020 Syrah The Deal was not destemmed, saw an extended maceration, and spent 18 months in 40% new French puncheons. Deep ruby/purple-hued, it has an incredibly floral perfume of black and blue fruits, pepper, iron, and crushed stone. With medium to full-bodied richness, a focused, precision, elegant texture, and a great finish, it’s a gem of a Syrah as well as an insane value.

This has a seductive nose of black plums, dark cherries, dried violets, ash and honeycomb. Full-bodied, silky and caressing yet firm, too, with polished tannins and a lovely floral character. Drink.

Description

Located at the base of the Blue Mountains in Walla Walla, Washington, Charles Smith opened his first winery, K Vintners, in December of 2001. The first release, 1999 K Syrah from Walla Walla Valley, initiated the style of winemaking that Charles continues today: small lots of single vineyard Syrahs and field blends of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Viognier, all of which are hand-picked, fermented with naturally occurring yeasts and basket pressed.

Shiraz/Syrah

Shiraz/Syrah, one grape, two names, yields bold red wines. Originating in France's Rhone Valley as Syrah, it's known as Shiraz in Australia and beyond. These wines boast deep color, robust body, and intense dark fruit flavors, often accented by notes of pepper and smoke. In France, Syrah shines in structured Northern Rhone wines and blends from the Southern Rhone. Meanwhile, Australian Shiraz is celebrated for its ripe fruit and full-bodied style. Regardless of origin, Shiraz/Syrah offers versatility, from elegant and peppery to rich and opulent, reflecting its terroir and winemaking.
