Description

The BARREAU vineyard is a family estate passed down from generation to generation since 1782. Our two Château, Haut-Garriga and Coutreau, are located in the wine-growing Entre-deux-Mers area, 10km away from St Emilion and 30km from Bordeaux.

We are historic producers of white wines and we export wines to Europe since 30 years. Nowadays we manage 75 hectares of vines and produce 4 000 hL of wine for the Bordeaux and Entre-deux-Mers appellations. Our sustainable viticulture is a direct extension of the evenly distributed soils all around our vineyard. Those diverse and unique soils are our greatest wealth.

In order to gest the best out of this terroir, Merlot and Cabernet are planted on chalky-clay type soils to reach optimal phenolic ripeness on our slopes. Sauvignon blanc is spread on the coolest soils of the estate to exalt the fruit aromas. Muscadelle and Sémillon form an ideal complement in the clayey soils closer to the Dordogne river.

Orange Wine

Orange wine is a type of white wine that is made using a traditional method that is more commonly associated with red wine production. The grapes used to make orange wine are white wine grapes, but the juice is fermented with the skins, seeds, and stems for a longer period of time than is typical for white wine, often several weeks to several months. This extended skin contact gives the wine its distinctive orange color, as well as a fuller body and a range of flavors and aromas that are not found in traditional white wines. Orange wine is typically dry and can have a slightly tannic, rustic quality, with notes of stone fruit, nuts, and honey. It is sometimes described as having a "skin-fermented" flavor profile and is prized by some wine enthusiasts for its unique and complex taste. Orange wine is produced in limited quantities and can be more challenging to find than other types of wine.
