This relatively recent proprietary red-blend creation continues to impress each vintage, showcasing Paso power with deft balance in pleasing ways. Aromas of blackberry jam, violet extract and root-beer floats proceed from the nose into a comforting palate of strawberry, cola and peppery spices. Firm, lingering tannins lead through the caramel-laced finish.

Description

The J. Lohr Pure Paso Proprietary Red Wine is exactly what the name suggests: authentic Paso Robles winegrowing history captured in a bottle. J. Lohr Pure Paso artfully blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah – two J. Lohr benchmark varieties – into a unique proprietary red wine. The two varieties have long been intertwined in J. Lohr’s winegrowing history and, in particular, the Lohr family’s pioneering efforts in the Paso Robles region. This Pure Paso Proprietary Red Wine highlights J. Lohr’s house-style, which is acclaimed for its dense and focused fruit signature, coupled with a soft, approachable palate. Its classic, dramatic packaging recalls Paso Robles’ frontier ethos. It is our delicious, proprietary tribute to one of the world’s great winegrowing regions – a special place that J. Lohr is proud to call home. Savory varietal notes of Cabernet Sauvignon are layered with the overt dark fruit character of Petite Sirah. The bouquet of cocoa powder, caramel, and anise works in harmony with the black cherry fruit signature of this wine. Bright and focused on the palate with a firm and appetizing finish.

Red Blend

Red blend wines are a versatile category in which winemakers artfully combine various red grape varieties to produce wines with a diverse and harmonious flavor profile. By blending grapes with different characteristics, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and others, winemakers can create wines that balance fruitiness, acidity, tannins, and other elements. This flexibility allows for a broad spectrum of styles, ranging from easy-drinking and approachable blends to more complex and structured ones. Red blends often showcase the winemaker's skill in achieving a desired flavor and texture, offering wine enthusiasts a delightful exploration of the interplay between different grape varietals. The composition of red blends can vary, not only between different wine regions but also among individual wineries, making them a fascinating category for both winemakers and wine enthusiasts alike.
